A new commercial cluster with a diverse mix of creative and innovation spaces, leading to a landmark residential building and a major cultural venue.
Design principles:
- Retaining existing facades at street level, setting back new buildings which step up in scale towards the centre of the site and respond to its art deco heritage
- A diverse mix of workspaces and different types of homes, with retail and cafes at street level.
- Extending the existing Empress Place street character into the new boulevard with extensive planting, seating and meeting spaces
- A new cultural destination celebrating the level change from Empress Place to the Table
- Creating a vehicle free street for pedestrians and cyclists, and enhancing the local character at street level
